In 1833, at the age of 73, the founder of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church published his autobiography, which he entitled The Life, Experience and Gospel Labours of the Rt. Rev. Richard Allen.... The book also contained three other important documents that Allen had authored or co-authored: a history of the AME Church, an account of Philadelphia's 1793 yellow fever epidemic, written with Absalom Jones, and "An Address to the People of Colour in the United States."
