Hurricane of '38 Home Videos

Several families documented the destruction wrought by the Hurricane of '38 with their home movie cameras. AMERICAN EXPERIENCE acquired home movies from three families.

The first video, taken by the Sweetland family, shows color footage of the dozens of large trees now littering the street.

Home videos from the Philbrick family survey the wreckage on the shoreline and captures the giant waves crashing in.

The Eddy family's final black and white video illustrates the aftermath of the hurricane when hundreds of boats had been deposited inland.
