Klaus Fuchs' Statement of Offense

February 28, 1950
On January 27, 1950 Klaus Fuchs, a British Scientist who had worked on the
atomic bomb at Los Alamos during the war, confessed to being a Soviet spy. On
March 1, 1950 he was tried and found guilty at the Old Bailey in London.

KLAUS EMIL JULIUS FUCHS is charged with the following offenses :-
1.STATEMENT OF OFFENSE
COMMUNICATING INFORMATION, contrary to Section 1 (1)(o) of the Official
Secrets Act, 1911.
PARTICULARS OF OFFENSE
KLAUS EMIL JULIUS FUCHS on a day in 1943 in the City of Birmingham for a
purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the State, communicated to a
person unknown, information relating to atomic research which was calculated to
be or might have been or was intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an
enemy.
2.STATEMENT OF OFFENSE
COMMUNICATING INFORMATION, contrary to Section 1 (1)(o) of the Official
Secrets Act, 1911.
PARTICULARS OF OFFENSE
KLAUS EMIL JULIUS FUCHS being a British Subject of a day unknown between
the 31st December 1943, and the 1st August 1944, in the City of New York in the
United States of America for a purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests
of the State communicated to a person unknown information relating to atomic
research which was calculated to be or might have been or was intended to be
directly or indirectly useful to an enemy.
3.STATEMENT OF OFFENSE
COMMUNICATING INFORMATION, contrary to Section 1(1)(o) of the Official Secrets
Act, 1911.
PARTICULARS OF OFFENSE
KLAUS EMIL JULIUS FUCHS being a British Subject on a day unknown in
February 1945, at Boston Massachusetts in the United States of America for a
purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the State communicated to a
person unknown information relating to atomic research which was calculated to
be or might have been or was intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an
enemy.
4.STATEMENT OF OFFENSE
COMMUNICATING INFORMATION, contrary to Section 1(1)(o) of the Official Secrets
Act, 1911.
PARTICULARS OF OFFENSE
KLAUS EMIL JULIUS FUCHS on a day in 1947, in the County of Berks for a
purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the State communicated to a
person unknown information relating to atomic research which was calculated to
be or might have been or was intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an
enemy.
