Andrew Carnegie: Making Money the Old Fashioned Way

Harold Livsey Transcript

He knows he can compete because from the very beginning he intends to know the costs of producing steel rails at the Edgar Thomson works. He learned that this is possible in his years on the railroad. And the Edgar Thomson Works is specifically constructed. With scales and check points and systems of measurement to keep track of all the materials and labor that go into the process so that he can know literally to the penny the cost of his product ton by ton.
