Syndicalism combines elements of anarchism with labor unionism. In the late 19th century it became known as "The Chicago Idea," recognizing the combined efforts of anarchists and labor activists in Chicago. Syndicalists proposed replacing a capitalist system with an industrial democracy by means of strong labor activism, often in the form of strikes.
