May 4th Broadsides | Der Anarchist | Arbeiter-Zeitung | The Alarm

After witnessing the violence at the McCormick factory, August Spies raced back to the offices of the Arbeiter-Zeitung to compose a printed flyer that detailed the deadly events. The broadside was printed and an inflammatory headline, "REVENGE," was added by the typesetter, to Spies' dismay.

That same day, Adolph Fischer worked on a broadside announcing the Haymarket rally in both English and German. Fischer inserted a line calling laborers to arms. Spies removed the line before printing.
