Q: How was gossip involved in Burr's race for governor in 1804?
A: When Burr runs for governor in 1804, Hamilton is there once again, and once again he's engaged in a sort of letter campaign, or a sort of subterranean publicity campaign to once again keep that dangerous Burr out of office. And again he comes forward with lists of reasons. Here's why we can't vote for the guy. Here's why he's not trustworthy. And he's active, he's everywhere. People are talking about what it is he's saying. And, as in 1800, Burr is at least aware of the fact that there's this low murmur happening around him. And it's being started by Hamilton.
