Joseph Goebbels diary 1925 Joseph Goebbels joined the Nazi Party as a young man. A skilled communicator, he was named the Nazis' top propagandist when Adolf Hitler became Germany's chancellor in 1933. His job was to inflame patriotic passions and shape public opinion to suit the will of the Nazis.

Over a decade in power, Goebbels trumpeted an ideology that led to the Holocaust, total war, and his own suicide in 1945.
