You're the General: More from Shiloh, Tennessee
The Michie School
American Experience would like to give a big thanks to Ms. Anne Bowers and her class of eighth-graders at the Michie School in Michie, Tennessee. In May 2001 they met us at Shiloh, just a few miles from their school, and joined us in a tour of the battlefield. With their help we are able to bring the history of the battle of Shiloh to kids around the world.
We'd also like to thank Janet Ambrose and Tim Smith of Shiloh National Military Park for their warm welcome.
The Michie School kids had some interesting questions for Ranger Tim while they were at Shiloh. Watch these video clips of Tim's answers.
What did the soldiers eat? (video)
How many Confederates were there? (video)
Did women fight in the battle too? (video)
You can also read some of the poetry the Michie students were inspired to write as they learned about the Civil War.
Civil War Rifle Demonstration
While we were at Shiloh Park, a ranger dressed in a Confederate uniform showed us how a Civil War rifle works. When it goes off, it's loud!
Watch a video of the shot (video)
