On September 6, 1970, members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hijacked three commercial airplanes, diverting two of them to a remote airstrip in the Jordanian desert that they called "Revolution Airport." The hijackers hoped to exchange the crew and passengers, including many Americans, for Palestinian militants held in foreign prisons.
Three days into the crisis, the hijackers granted reporters limited access to the hostages in a makeshift press conference. View footage from the events in the desert.
