[Houdini's] exposes of spiritualists and seances and the like gave his career a different dimension. Whether it saved his career completely is hard to say, but it certainly got him attention in realms that he had not had before. I mean, the fact that Scientific America[n] would pay attention to Houdini, for example, I think, put him in another category. I think it gave him a kind of legitimacy perhaps that he had not had, that he could be a serious debunker of fakes, that he was good enough, he was sharp enough, he was perceptive enough to see the charlatan.
