Horror. You know, that was the element. Why do people read horror stories and go to horror movies? Some of the same thing was in his act. There’s some element of horror, some ability to appreciate something going on, even the flirtation with death, that was really transgressive. It really could be very, very frightening. And people would go to watch him and then turn away. He was touching on things that maybe they thought he shouldn't be doing.
