One of the gags that he had going was, when we think about it now, actually very simple. If he had his arms held together with a series of handcuffs, say, 2 or 3 inches apart, all the way from his wrists into his forearms like that, up to the elbow, it would look pretty formidable. Actually, all he had to do was release one pair, the ones right at his wrists. He was very well muscularly developed, remember, in the forearms, in fact, all over his body. The handcuffs up here would be fastened over a much larger part of his arm, and even much larger up here. So the other ones would just slip down and off his hands. He only had to open the one pair of handcuffs. That was part of the showmanship that went with this. It’s not cheating. It’s not lying. It’s simply taking advantage of a fact that the audience does not notice.
