Well, it seems that the boys really kept the family together. I mean, both Houdini and his brother Theo went out to work very early. Houdini worked in a necktie-cutting factory. He seems to have worked in a die tool-cutting firm. He and his brother seems to have sold newspapers. From what I know, most of the income from the family came from the boys. His father worked too, doing odd rabbinical chores, presiding at a marriage or a funeral, but then also working in this poor, you know, kind of sweatshop. It seems to have been the children even, more than the father, who brought an income into the house.
