Claudia King worked in the civil rights movement before moving to San Francisco in the winter of 1966 and taking part in the Summer of Love.

The Summer of Love was love. You know, it wasn't one year, it didn't stop and begin there, but that love is worth holding on. Love is creativity, to create is to love, and that will just keep going on, even when we don't see any reason. I have a very good friend who has always said to me, when my cynicism arises, "Well, Claudia, you're right, all of that is true, but I have to believe that you've got to find that one little thing and make it work for you, and let it motivate you and be your inspiration."
