PENTAGON STATEMENT ON RELIEF OF GEN. MACARTHUR
April 19, 1951

"In response to inquiries from the press concerning Gen. MacArthur's reference to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a Pentagon spokesman said that the White House had authorized him to state that the action taken by the President in relieving Gen. MacArthur was based upon the unanimous recommendations of the President's principal civilian and military advisers including the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The reasons for Gen. MacArthur's relief have been stated previously by the President."
