Defendant Göring
World War II ended in Europe on May 7, 1945, the day after Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring surrendered to the Allies in Kitzbühel, Austria. Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler had committed suicide just days earlier in his Berlin bunker.
View this historic footage from the National Archives of Göring being disarmed and questioned by two American intelligence officers on May 9th. He would be the chief defendant at the war crimes trials in Nuremberg later that year.
