Pivotal Decisions: Should Thomas And Blalock Work Together?

You chose Choice Three. Thomas should accept the offer but negotiate a starting salary closer to his old wage.

Recognizing Blalock's need for a capable assistant, Thomas feels strongly that he has the initiative and ability to exceed Blalock's expectations -- if they can work out a better wage.

Thomas will get the best of both worlds -- a job in medicine and enough pay to continue his savings plans.
Blalock will get an eager and earnest lab assistant who has little incentive to look elsewhere for more income.

Thomas will have to challenge a white man to receive better pay. He may be perceived as "not knowing his place" for the request.
Thomas may lose the job offer all together, and it could preclude other work at Vanderbilt in the future.
