You Do It: Pumping
A dozen pumping stations move oil along the pipeline's 800-mile route. The pipeline crosses a variety of elevations and obstacles like rivers and mountains. Pump Station 12 pushes the oil over Thompson Pass in the Chugach Mountains-- elevation 2,812 feet -- where workers climbed steep walls to build the pipeline.
Adjust pressure levels at Pump Station 12 and get the oil over the pass.
