Over 100,000 welds, made by Pipewelders Union Local 798 from Tulsa, Oklahoma, connect the Trans-Alaska pipeline. The welders used superheated metal fills to join pipe segments together. The welds have to withstand pressure from the oil inside the pipe and the extreme weather outside it.
