First African Baptist Church

First African Baptist Church
Lexington, Kentucky
Founded: c. 1790
Current Building: 1856

First African is the oldest African Baptist Church in Kentucky, and the third oldest in the United States. The funeral of Peter "Old Captain" Durrett, the first minister, is said to have been one of the largest ever held in Lexington.
