Christ Episcopal Church Christ Episcopal was consecrated in 1854 by Leonidas Polk, the Confederate general known as the "Fighting Bishop." Union troops used the church for barracks, horse stables and target practice. The congregation began the slow task of restoring the nearly destroyed building in 1869. The church was not returned to its former splendor until the early 20th century, with the restoration of a Tiffany stained glass window above the altar. |
