The North Carolina State Capitol building in Raleigh was built in 1840. The project cost more than three times the state's annual general income at the time.

The production crew filmed scenes of the Georgia state legislature inside the Capitol building, including a scene of a whisky party legislators held in 1867.

We're trying to get the audience for a moment to suspend its disbelief, and not so much believe that what they're watching is real -- but it's going to trigger them to start imagining what it would have been like if they were in that place. -- Llew Smith, producer and director
