Susan Douglas on: The Meaning of CQD
Susan Douglas Q: What did CQD mean?

SD: CQD we believe has its origins in ham operator lingo. CQ meant seek you or seeking you, I'm seeking you, are you out there? Is anybody out there? And the D was added to stand for danger. So that it was meant to mean, I am seeking you, danger. And that's where CQD emerged from as the first distress signal that was used.
