Much to his shock and dismay, Jack Binns became an overnight hero for his role in the "Republic"/"Florida" rescue, gaining the moniker, "CQD Binns." "I only did what I should have done and what every other fellow would have done under the same circumstances." Others, he believed, deserved more credit than he.
