Seattle Slew
1977 Horse of the Year and Triple Crown
Earnings: $1,208,726 ($3.6 million in 2002 dollars)

The speedy Seattle Slew was the first undefeated horse to win all three races of the Triple Crown series: the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. After a near-fatal illness he made a dazzling comeback. In the 1978 Marlboro Cup he beat Triple Crown-winner Affirmed.
