After October 18th rioting in Madison became a routine thing. We had bus-laned riots. We had riots you wouldn't believe and sometimes our riot duty lasted two to three weeks. We would be called in, we'd be in the station at eight o'clock in the morning and we'd work till we were done. Sometimes ten, eleven o'clock, sometimes three or four in the morning and we did that for two or three weeks many, many times. We were informed one time that Madison for being as small as it was had more on-duty riot time than any city in the country.
