The area where I lived was represented by a guy on the City Council who received very few votes in the previous election and there had been some of us who before the Dow demonstration had already wanted to get more involved in community affairs and community activities. And so this episode of Dow and then realizing how isolated we were really reinforced my idea about running for the City Council and I took it very seriously, especially because I was fairly sure that if we organized well and got the vote out that I could win.
