We Shall Remain: Oklahoma
Oklahoma is celebrating its Native voices through We Shall Remain. With 39 tribes currently headquartered in the state, no state boasts a richer Native American history than Oklahoma. The name "Oklahoma" comes from the Choctaw words "okla", meaning people, and "humma", meaning red, so the state's name proudly means "red people."
OETA is working with project partners to establish the statewide We Shall Remain: Oklahoma coalition, bringing together Native tribes and organizations, museums, libraries, schools, universities, cultural institutions, and public radio to create opportunities and events tied to the national series.
