Build long, supporting arms
There's not enough room in downtown Chicago to fit buttresses this large!

Large buttresses would certainly help support your skyscraper, but they're not the most practical solution. In order to support a 50-story skyscraper, the buttresses would need to be gigantic! They'd pierce through neighboring buildings, cross major roadways, and look pretty darn ugly.

The city would never approve of such a monstrous structure.
