Chicago isn't called the Windy City for nothing. Gusts of up to 45 miles per hour are whipping around your new 50-story apartment building. The building is swaying back and forth so much, tenants are complaining of seasickness! You need to brace your tall building against these strong winds or it will topple to the ground.

The catch? A geotechnical engineer just told you that the ground beneath the new building is very soft. You'll need to brace the building without making it too heavy, or it will sink into the mushy ground!

How will you strengthen your wobbly skyscraper?

Build big diagonal braces on the outside of the skyscraper   Build long, supporting arms   Build a rigid backbone through the core of the building with steel beams, columns, and diagonal bars
