Before Watching
Have students locate the Kalahari on a map of Africa. What is its longitude
and latitude? In which countries of Africa will you find the Kalahari? Tell
students that the Kalahari has surface temperatures as high as 70°C
(158°F) and scarce and unpredictable rainfall. Have them think about what
animals need to survive living there. Make a web of their ideas. As they watch
the program, have students develop a list of survival strategies used by
animals.
After Watching
Revisit students' lists about factors necessary to survive in the Kalahari. Which factors seem most important?
