briefs As previously reported, the Privatization Organization announced that in order to repay its debt to the armed forces it has transferred the concession and ownership of the Tehran International Expo Building to the Armed Forces.
Now ICTna.ir, the technology news branch of the state news agency IRNA, has announced that 51% of the Iranian Telecommunication shares will "most likely" be given to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"There are murmurs that just like in previous takeovers, the Revolutionary Guard will be getting these shares, despite claims that many companies from the private sector can make their bids," says the article. "In this regard, we can look at previous privatization schemes carried out by the government where shares were to be sold, but where both Sadra and the Development Investment fund came out the winners and both are companies that are owned by the Revolutionary Guard.
"Now, for the privatization of the telecommunications industry, there are various bidders that are tied to the Guards and knowledgeable sources tell us that the deal has already been sealed."

This sort of news is really what's more discouraging than the clampdown on the riots and even the election fraud.
First it was the mullahs and now the IRGC and basij. They have their hands in everything from the army, police and itelligence to politics and the economy.
Maziar / August 27, 2009 5:23 PMTheir breed will not go away easily, not just because they are ideological radicals, but also because their millions and billions depend on it.
I can't understand why there would even be a debt to the armed forces. Did they borrow from them? Why would the armed forces have money that the government would then need to borrow?

Maziar / August 28, 2009 2:16 PMThey have their hands in every facet of the economy and even the black market.
The REAL significance of this is that IRGC will have direct control of eavesdropping facilities (51% of Iranian Telecommunication).
Start breeding carrier pigeons and/or look at steganographic (http://bit.ly/zbhMT).
