Wow! Thank you Tehran Bureau. It's taken so much arrogance, corruption, brutality, crimes, and incompetence to take, in less than 30 years, a regime with a 90%+ mandate to this level of hatred.

Go Iran, go!

Thank you Tehran Bureau. I am spreading the word. Just because they are not letting major networks in does not mean the world will not witness brutality! Keep up the good work.

Tania / December 28, 2009 2:38 AM

victor / December 28, 2009 4:37 AM

Thank you for this and all you do. As you've done in the past (I know today was a truly amazing, powerful day for the Iranian ppl), could you possibly include translations of what the chants are? Some are familiar but it is always great to know the words associated with the fervor that is the path to freedom. And Bravo! to WGBH for understanding the significance of your work and bringing you on board!

Thank you brave iranians for exposing this vicious, filthy, murderous regime.
30 years of oppression of murder of rape is coming to an end.
DOWN with Islamic Regime LONG LIVE IRAN!

ali / December 28, 2009 7:30 AM

It has been raining here lately and I happened to break a window glass tonight. The hole is the size of a basketball and the entire glass panel would have to be replaced, which will cost $$$. I laughed it off because at least I have a roof over my head.

Thanks pbs.org and youtube for having these video clips available. It's like looking through tiny windows of Iran. I hope those who have been captured and are being tortured and raped will be freed soon. My troubles are indeed small. I feel blessed; so, I pray for freedom and peace in Iran. I hope they won't cost too many lives.

IRAN: Forgotten glory, this is the death of human rights.

HD / December 28, 2009 9:18 PM

Dear brothers and (especially)sisters of Iran, we in the West are made humble by your strong spirit and outstanding Bravery. We are with you in our hearts - KEEP GOING - YOU WILL WIN!

martino / December 29, 2009 2:20 AM

Martino, well said. May God bless the fierce love of freedom in the hearts of these brave youth of Iran. There immense courage in the face of the guns of the Supreme Ayatollah gives all decent people of the world renewed hope that the foundation of deceit and brutality of every fascistic statist regime will utterly crumble when the good people have had enough! Viva la Liberty for the Iranian People!

LoveToCompost / December 29, 2009 5:24 AM

What do these people want the right to drink alcohol, not wear the veil and the right to say any ridiculous thing they want? Do they want to turn their country over to Rafsanjani and the other billionaires? Yes let the capitalists take over your country and you will be begging for the mullahs to come back. I support social freedoms but what exactly do these people want? Is this type of mayhem always common with this religious celebration? I notice a lot of the protesters saying allah u akbar. I'm not sure we even know why these people are protesting until we learn what they are saying its easy enough to use this as propaganda for reactionary Americans who always have an enemy du' our and how barely can speak English. Unless you speak Farsi and have knowledge about this culture and religion this video doesn't mean too much.

Oh yeah lets keep this in mind also - Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran

May 22, 2007 6:29 PM

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/05/bush_authorizes.html
The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert "black" operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject, say President Bush has signed a "nonlethal presidential finding" that puts into motion a CIA plan that reportedly includes a coordinated campaign of propaganda, disinformation and manipulation of Iran's currency and international financial transactions.

"I can't confirm or deny whether such a program exists or whether the president signed it, but it would be consistent with an overall American approach trying to find ways to put pressure on the regime," said Bruce Riedel, a recently retired CIA senior official who dealt with Iran and other countries in the region.

javabeton ba saheb ashora

ali / December 29, 2009 6:23 PM

Considering how many millions gathered peacefully to commemorate Ashura, and the fact that security forces kept the peace largely whilst being unarmed. Of course the loss of all innocent life is deplorable and actions should be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. Considering also the fact that politicians like David Miliband, who actually made an apology to Tzipi Livni for whom a British magistrate issued an arrest warrant to answer charges for war crimes, is supporting the protesors as well as the hypocrite Obama. What seems to be happening is that US and its allies are taking advantage of the internal disputes to destabilise Iran and create a civil war situation. Iranians should be very careful that Tehran is not turned in a Beirut '80s style. Then all the 'freedoms' that the opposition craves for will be of no consequence as life will no longer be safe.

rezvan / December 29, 2009 9:52 PM

So, we need to get all worked up about the Iranians now - they
might have weapons of mass destruction - the people live under a dictatorship

does this sound like the last movies we were shown (i.e. Iran, Afghanistan, now Somalia, now Yemen, next Iran...

come on people - leave the Iranians alone - and you exiled Iranians who live here in the US, don't drag us into your problems..go home and do it yourself if its that terrible for you.

As if our country knows anything about running an honest government that we can teach anyone else (like 20 trillion dollars in bailouts for the bankers that got us into this mess) - maybe we can teach the Iranians how we do corruption.

TurnBoy / December 29, 2009 9:52 PM

Rezvan

I think the protesters are demonstrating because they are unhappy about the lack of political and personal freedoms compounded by the perception that the election was rigged (which from where I'm sitting appears to be the case).

I doubt if anyone will be brought to justice for these crimes as you have suggested.

And personally I think that western government leaders supporting the opposition is a good thing - we Iranians need to think beyond conspiracy theories involving every one but ourselves.
