I didn’t see this interview but just watched the actual airing of ‘LOOKING FOR LONCOLN’ and I have to say brava. I really enjoyed it and fournd it extremely informative, insightful, honest & personal. I found the ‘host’ to be compelling, I felt I needed to know as much as he did.
The journey was profound and the results where inspiring. To see so many brilliant people so enthralled by someone, albeit not just anyone, so steeped in history and controversy, it made me proud to be an American, correction Abe Lincoln & Henry Louis Gates, Jr. made me proud to be an American.
Thank you.
I enjoyed the program “Looking For Lincoln” by Mr.Henry Louis Gates,Jr. It was excellent! There is something interesting to think about. It is not who we were, but who we become in life. It was not who St. Peter was, it was who St. Peter became. As with Lincoln, it was not who Lincoln was, it was who Lincoln became.
Thank you,
John
Lincoln as recovering racist and came full circle and Illinois had a law against Black settling there and dearest Henry still think without a doubt that Lincoln was the greatest president.

Unless I misheard abount black ownership in Illinois, I refer you to New Philadelphia founded by Frank McWhorter, a black man, in 1830’s in Pike County, IL. An interesting story in itself.
