The Double Wedding Ring quilt has always been one of my favorites, especially in Amish quilts. So I bought the plastic templates to cut one out with a rotary cutter. But it stayed in the package for years.

One day on my way to Shipshewana, Indiana, I stopped at a quilt show along the way. A woman there had the most beautiful hand-dyed fabrics, one of which was very much like the Turkey Red used in old quilts. Well, I kissed a bunch of money goodbye, and became the proud owner of some of her fabric.

For months I struggled with how to make the most of these beautiful fabrics. One day the unused Double Wedding Ring pattern stared me in the face again and a light bulb went off. But the there wasn't enough hand-dyed fabric! Well, as they say 'necessity is the mother of invention'.

The result, Almost Wedded, is hand and machine pieced and hand quilted ( the only thing that was right to do on the hand-dyed fabric). Although it is only 28" x 24", it is a very powerful piece with its strong colors. My only regret is now that we live in Montana the sunlight is so strong I can't display it in our house.
