In
1996 the first of the 80 million or so baby boomers crossed the half-century
mark, turning 50 with a mixture of grace, dread, good humor, and resignation
for the unavoidable decline. But is it all so inevitable? Or will an
investment in taking care of ourselves now pay out big dividends as
we try to forestall the aging process? The answer seems to be, yes it
will.
This
edition of Body & Soul takes
a look at the aging the process, and in particular, the subject that
appears to be at the heart of most anxieties about growing old--memory
loss.

First
we will take to you to the desert of Arizona for a visit with Dharma
Singh Khalsa, M.D., a Western trained physician who has incorporated
Eastern techniques into his integrated program for combating age-related
memory loss by keeping the brain in top shape.

Then Dr. Andrew
Weil, a leading authority on integrative medicine and the author of
seven books, weighs in with his views on a variety of issues associated
with aging and how we might adjust our lifestyles to accommodate the
changes ahead.

Finally,
Body & Soul takes you to Atlanta
where a group of senior citizens have been practicing Tai Chi as part
of a research project that has proven the ancient martial art to be
an effective preventive measure that can dramatically reduce the number
of falls among the elderly.
