Asia - Vegetation From the riverine forests and great plains of the north and east - home to edible grasses like rice, and pulses like lentils and soya - to the tropical fruits of the southern jungles, there is plenty of food available throughout Asia – although gathering can be heavily season-dependent. The cultivation of grasses depends on heavy irrigation, since rainfall is irregular, and many native crops require submersion in water.
