Australia
- Location
Australia comprises the largest island in the world and suffers
almost total isolation. It is also 97 percent desert, regularly
experiencing dry, tropical and sub-tropical temperatures of more
than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Most of the continent’s rainfall
is concentrated to the north and east of the island, the great expanse
of lowland bush and desert experience little more than 15 inches
of rain in a whole year. A tiny fraction of Australia combines a
temperate climate with fertile soil – this south-eastern corner,
the most viable option for human habitation.
