Australia
- Vegetation
Australia exhibits some of the most ancient, even primeval plant
species in the world, adapted to the hot climate and low rainfall.
These include eucalyptus and acacia, as well as some species of
beech and conifer. But Australia ranks lowest among the continents
for soil fertility, and hosts no native species of domesticable
seed-bearing grass, root vegetable, pulse, or fruit. For any aspiring
indigenous farmer, the shelves of Australia were woefully empty.
