Australia
Australia’s wildlife is unique – from the kangaroo to
the wallaby, the duck-billed platypus to the dingo, the koala to
the possum, these species evolved in isolation for millions of years.
But Australia’s large marsupials, and other mammals, are psychologically
too independent and too dangerous for domestication – one
blow from a kangaroo’s tail could kill a man. It lacks any
large, domesticable mammals – no cows, horses, sheep, pigs,
goats, donkeys, camels or llamas. Potential farmers face a raw deal
in Australia.
