Handbell Ensemble Sonos, Gamelan Pusaka Sunda, and San Jose
Taiko plus Chinese harp join in the new multicultural work,
The Navigator Tree, by cyberspace renaissance man Jaron
Lanier, creator of the term "virtual reality." Using multiple
intonation systems, the work pays tribute to one of our continent's
tallest trees that was felled by loggers in the California
hills in the mid-1800s. The theme reflects environmental goals
of communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the country's
most ecologically sensitive and culturally diverse areas.
