The Harriman Alaska Expedition Retraced would
not have been possible without the critical partnership of the Alumnae
Association of Smith College, which
contributed financial, technical and logistical support.
Zegrahm Expeditions translated Harriman's 1899
itinerary into the contemporary expedition route, and provided the necessary
maritime expertise for this thirty-day voyage.
The project team is deeply indebted to Phoebe
A. Wood, formerly Vice President for Finance, Planning and Control of
ARCO Alaska, Inc., who provided logistical and financial support, as well
as a base of operations in Anchorage, Alaska. We remain grateful to Philips
Alaska, Inc., which has assumed ARCO's Alaskan interests.
The Alaska
Geographic Alliance, with the support
of the Alaska
Science & Technology Foundation,
helped develop the project's educational mission and focus.
The Harriman Retraced web site was created by
our colleagues at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's
National
Ocean Service, Special Projects Office.
The Clipper
Cruise Lines have provided logistical
support and a satellite connection for onboard programs. Their vessel,
the M/V Clipper Odyssey, will transport the Saanya Kwan objects during
the repatriation program at Cape Fox.
Many agencies and organizations have provided
expertise and assistance to Harriman Retraced, including the U.S. Fish
& Wildlife Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service,
Cape Fox Corporation, and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum
of the American Indian, National Museum of Natural History, and Arctic
Studies Center.
