Officials say the death toll from flash flooding in central Texas has risen to 37, including 14 children. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, speaking in a press conference along with Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and other state and local officials, vowed to continue the search until "we locate every single person."

Abbott also signed a request for a federal disaster declaration to seek "the immediate and ongoing help from the federal government."

Secretary Noem said during the press conference that President Donald Trump is committed to using "all the resources at the federal government" to help in the search and recover operations.

"So the response and relief will be coming," Noem said.

Rescuers scoured flooded riverbanks littered with mangled trees Saturday and turned over rocks in the search for more than two dozen children from a girls' camp and many others missing after a wall of water blasted down a river in the Texas Hill Country.

Some 36 hours after the floods, authorities have still not given a number of how many people in total are still missing beyond the 27 children from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along the river.

Authorities said about 850 people had been rescued.

The destructive fast-moving waters rose 26 feet (8 meters) in just 45 minutes before daybreak Friday, washing away homes and vehicles.

The danger was not over as torrential rains continued pounding communities outside San Antonio on Saturday and flash flood warnings and watches remained in effect.
