In a statement announcing the hearing, chair Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., listed several issues that might be addressed in the hearing, including the Biden administration's changes to Title IX to offer new protections for LGBTQ students and victims of sexual assault, the troubles caused by the overhaul of FAFSA for prospective college students, as well as charges of antisemitism on college campuses as higher education communities grapple with the toll of the Israel-Hamas war.
On Friday, Cardona addressed college and university presidents in a letter denouncing antisemitic harassment and speech on campuses.
Foxx said the hearing would give the committee an "opportunity to hold Secretary Cardona accountable for his partisan agenda."
