In the first day of the hearing on Wednesday, Bondi was questioned about the weaponization of the Justice Department, both by Democrats worried about how President-elect Donald Trump will attempt to wield his influence over law enforcement to punish his critics, as well as by Republicans who suggested that the Biden administration had unfairly targeted conservatives.

Day 2 featured witnesses called by both Democrats and Republicans, including former Florida State Attorney Dave Aronberg; Statewide Prosecutor Nicholas B. Cox; Emery Gainey, the former Alachua County sheriff; Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen; and Mary B. McCord, executive director of the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown University Law Center.
The former Florida attorney general was selected by President-elect Donald Trump after his first pick, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, stepped aside amid allegations of wrongdoing.
Since leaving the White House, Trump has been embroiled in a number of legal cases, including being indicted at both the state and federal level. After his reelection, the Justice Department ended its case related to efforts to subvert the 2020 election, though special counsel Jack Smith released a report saying he believed the evidence would have been sufficient to convict Trump if he hadn't been returning to office.
Trump has denied wrongdoing and cast the various investigations into his conduct as witch hunts.
