WATCH: UN Security Council holds special session on U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

The United Nations Security Council held a special session Friday to address President Donald Trump's announcement from earlier this week that the U.S. will officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The U.S. decision was met with international backlash from foreign leaders who said the move would disrupt peace prospects in the Middle East. There have since been reported clashes across the Palestinian territories between Israeli forces and protesters.

The first known death was confirmed by the Palestinian Health Ministry on Friday, saying Mohammed Al-Masri, 30, died after he was struck by live fire in the Gaza strip. At least 35 Palestinians have also been injured in the clashes.
