The federal takeover of the District of Columbia's police department could last longer than 30 days, according to the White House on Tuesday.

During a news briefing, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the administration would "reevaluate and reassess and make further decisions" after the 30-day period is over.
The White House would need approval from both House and Senate in order to extend the takeover the police department.
