President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden greeted incoming President-elect Donald Trump and future first lady Melania Trump outside the White House Monday morning in a return to presidential transition tradition.

In 2021, when Biden took office on the heels of Trump's first term, the Trumps did not greet the Bidens nor invite them in, an enduring presidential transition ceremonially marking the peaceful transfer of power. Over the years, Trump has repeated the falsehood that he won the 2020 election.
On Monday, both couples shook hands before taking photos and entering the White House together ahead of the inauguration held at the U.S. Capitol.
