StoryCorps Shorts: Like Brothers
about
Growing up the youngest in his family, Barry Romo was close in age to his niece and nephews. He was especially close to his nephew Robert, known to everyone as Bobby, who he shared a brother-like bond with. During the Vietnam War, Barry enlisted in the Army, and Bobby was drafted. Barry became a First Lieutenant, and Bobby was a Private First Class in the same brigade.
Only one of them came home. Barry recorded with StoryCorps’ Military Voices Initiative to memorialize his nephew, who was killed in action in 1968.
